How to Knit and Felt a Bag (Great Tutorial!)
14 Comments:
Wow, that is beautiful. Congratulations!
Heidi,
I'll say it again, that bag is amazing. How long have you been drying it? Did you do the straps separately? I always do because they take longer to felt.
Beautiful.
Hi Deborah, and thanks everyone. The bag didn't take very long to dry at all. I felted it last night and it was dry by lunch time today. I had it outside this morning because it was a nice day. I'm doing the straps separately yes, but I've run out of the grey so I have to get more to make those straps. I'll post a pic when it's all finished.
That's amazing. Hey, didn't you just start knitting recently? What's the big idea doing such a complicated pattern already?
Wow. Way ta go.
Ya Sonja, I've been knitting for oh I'd say about a month now. Knitting has always intimidated me, I had wished it was something I could do. I'm not sure why I chose Fair Isle, I guess my artistic/creative/curious side got the better of me. Plus the video clip at Philosopher's Wool really gave me the courage to give it a whirl.
Wow, that's so pretty! Where did you get the pattern?
Got the pattern for the Fair Isle from here: Jessica Tromp.
Here's the exact pattern, plus the specific repeated chart: how the pattern looks, chart to repeat. I hope these links work!
This bag is absolutely wonderful!!! All of your bags are! And I love your stitch markers! Where do you find the silver rings to make them with?
Janice
Wow...great job..really love the way it looks.
Thanks jarlady, and kat. Jarlady, I get the silver rings at Walmart, they are sold as bracelet toggles in the craft department. You can get them in the size I use, or a little smaller for smaller needles. I love them, they make making stitch markers a cinch!
Thanks Heidi! I'll check Walmart tomorrow. I saw your pattern and wool set out for the Fiber Trend Clogs. I just picked up that pattern today and hope to start tomorrow. They look yummy! I also knit with my daughter.. it's a great mother/daughter hobby!
Janice
I hope you find the bracelet toggles very easily Janice! Stitch markers are so fun to make. And there's a lot of talk about felted clogs on my Bag-a-holic yahoo group, LOL! The main subject is bags, but we're caught up with those clogs. That's great you knit with your daughter, I must buy my daughter some pretty yarn so she'll pick up her needles again, she's laid them down for the moment.
That is beautiful!! Great booga bag!!
Hey WOW! OMG!! Totally cool bag Heidi, I love your colors. Such a brave and talented knitter, only a month? Holy cow.
